Finally, it was the big day to ride up Pike's Peak. My dad was up at 6:00am that morning. He was so excited for the day to finally arrive. It was a beautiful morning when we took off. My mom decided she would be a basket case trying to drive up behind us, so she took all the kids up on the Cog Railroad. Thank goodness, because the ride turned out to be quite treacherous! It took us about 45 minutes (I think) to get to the top. The last several miles are dirt road. As if that wasn't bad enough, the race was that following weekend and all of the racers where there practicing that day. We rode by some of the motorcross racers. They were all in a line on their dirtbikes. As we rode by, I heard one of them honk, but didn't think much about it. After we reached the top, Eric said all their helmets turned in a line as I rode by. They couldn't believe there was this girl crazy enough to ride her Harley up this mountain!! As you may or may not know, there are no guard rails once you get to a certain altitude. Well, here we are, no guard rails, dirt road that has been loosened with erosion and travel over the last few decades, and this race car comes sliding around the bend coming down the mountain. He came so close and if he had lost control of his car in the slightest little bit, he would've knocked me right off that mountain. That was by far one the scariest moments (aside from getting drug under the rock whitewater rafting/swimming that one time!!) of my life! I was so glad to reach the top! My dad was literally on cloud 9. Mom and the kids arrived shortly thereafter and the weather closed in quickly. We were eager to get them back on the Cog so we could get going. We didn't tell my mom or the kids how treacherous the road was so they wouldn't worry. By the time we took back off, the weather had closed in on the top of the mountain and as you can see in some of the pictures, we were getting a little wet. Luckily, it didn't take long for us to get down to an altitude where the weather was clear again. I can't tell you how happy I was to see paved road, either!! haha Lisa was on the back of Everett's motorcycle and captured so many awesome pictures! I've only chosen a few of my favorites, but there are so many beautiful shots - if you ever get the chance, ask me to see the rest! You know me, I'd be more than happy to show them off! haha

getting to the point we reached the ice caps. brrrr the kids were happy to have made it to the top! dad and I before we took off that morning. This was taken at the ranch - wasn't the view beautiful!!
my dad and I riding up into the clouds Eric and I rounding the mountain - check out the drop off/view!! we had to stop for a picture on the way down
Lisa shot this right after I had come off a hair pin turn that they were about to go into. You can tell by the angle how crazy the road is!! this turn would've been a bad one to miss! how beautiful is this picture?!
